Smooth Threads

Smooth Threads are threads with no barbs pre-threaded onto a small needle. They are made from a safe, FDA cleared absorbable material called PDO (sugar polydioxanone). This is a safe suture material that has been used in orthopedic and cardiovascular surgery for over 30 years.

Smooth threads do not lift tissue but instead tighten the skin by stimulating collagen in the area (s) where they are placed. These threads are pre threaded onto a small needle and superficially inserted into the skin in a mesh-like fashion. When placed into areas that need extra tightening or textural improvement, collagen forms all around the threads. The thread dissolves, leaving newly formed collagen, which firms and tightens up the skin area.

They are excellent in improving skin texture and fine lines especially in the lower face in areas such as lines above and below the mouth (perioral or lip lines), vertical lines in the lower cheek (referred to as “accordion lines”, fine lines on the chin and elsewhere on the face.  They can also be used to tighten skin in the neck and decolletage.

In our office, we use MINT™ Mono PDO threads which are backed by more than 6 years of published safety studies and dual FDA clearances.

This procedure takes no more than 30 minutes and the client can return to their normal, daily activities afterwards. Topical numbing cream is used to ease patient comfort. There is minimal discomfort and no downtime.

A series of 3 sessions spaced 4 weeks apart is recommended and then maintenance is individualized to the patient.
